Debbarma said that the party stood by its demand and has not diluted its Greater Tipraland demand on its first meeting with interlocutor AK Mishra
Tipra Motha is hopeful of a logical solution to its constitutional demand for granting maximum autonomy to the indigenous people of Tripura, said Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Debbarma, who led the party delegation in its first official meeting with Special Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs, AK Mishra, who is also the interlocutor for talks.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Debbarma said, “We have stuck to our demand for greater TIPRA land. We have put across our demand, he has heard us out patiently, and he has taken down our point. I believe the first meeting has been in a very congenial atmosphere, and we are hopeful that there will be a logical end and a constitutional solution for the survival of the indigenous people of Tripura.”
Responding to talks to be held at regular intervals as the dialogues between the party and the centre have begun, Debbarma said, “Yes, the framework has to be decided. There are points that must be understood by both sides. We have articulated our points. They will have to come back to us.”
Sharing highlight of the meeting, Debbarma said that the party stood by its demand and has not diluted its Greater Tipraland demand.
“We have not diluted our stand. We have stuck to the most important thing, that any solution that has to happen for the indigenous people has to be for the community and not for political leadership. Politicians will come and go, but if the community survives, then only our next generation will survive.”
Apart from the Tipra Motha team, the MHA officials led by Mishra also met a delegation of the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), which is an ally of the ruling BJP, and tribal community heads, or the Council of Tiprasa Hodas.
Responding to Tipra Motha, IPFT, and Samaj Pattis being on the same page as far as a solution is concerned, Debbarma said, “There has to be one solution, and the solution has to be for the community. It has to be for the next generation and the constitution of India, it has to be an honourable solution, and it has to be something that will ensure our community survives.”
“IPFT’s demand is for TIPRA land. My demand is for greater TIPRA land. And as far as I think, even the Samaj Pattis support our demand for a separate administration,” Debbarma added.
