First Published: 5th March, 2023 12:20 IST

CM Sarma on Saturday said that the BJP is ready to talk with Tipra Motha on all issues except on the greater Tipraland demand

Tipra Motha Chief Pradyot Deb Barman, responding to Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remark on talks said that the Tipra Motha is ready to have a talk but only about a constitutional solution. Deb Barma said that Tipra Motha was formed for a constitutional solution.

“We are also ready to have a talk, but we are ready to talk about a constitutional solution. If you invite us with respect, then we will come. But if you invite us to offer a post then we are not ready. Tipra Motha was not formed for this. Tipra Motha was formed for constitutional solution” the Tipra Motha Chief said.

The Tipra Motha Chief also said that if the saffron party invites them officially, then they are ready, but only on condition, to have a talk on a constitutional solution.

“I have to be officially invited, but not about posts or individual seat sharing; we have to be offered a constitutional solution. Call us for that, and we will come and talk,” Pradyot Deb Barman said.

On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the BJP is ready to talk with Tipra Motha and resolve the grievances of the tribal people, but the saffron party will not talk about Greater Tipraland as the BJP will not allow any division of Tripura.

“Tipra Motha raised certain issues regarding the welfare of the tribal people. Without dividing the state of Tripura we are ready to sit down with them, we want to talk with them, and we want to resolve the grievances of tribal people but we cannot talk of Greater Tipraland. Tripura will remain united. Within the greater Tripura whatever needs to be talked about and addressed, both central government and state government will be ready” CM Sarma said.
