MEA Regrets Attack on Bangladesh Asstt High Commission Office in Agartala

A delegation of six among the protestors were submitting a memorandum to the Assistant High Commissioner when the incident occurred.

The External Affairs Ministry has regretted the attack on office of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala today afternoon and said that diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances.

In a statement issued today evening, the ministry said, “The incident earlier today if the breach if premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances. Government is taking action to step up security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and their Deputy/ Assistant High Commissions in the country”.

Members of the Tripura unit of Hindu Sangharsha Samity were holding a peaceful sit-in demonstration in front of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue near Circuit House in Agartala. Suddenly a group of protesters broke the police barricade and broke into the Assistant High Commissioner’s office.

DGP (I&O) Anuragh Dhankar along with SP West Tripura district Dr Kiran Kumar had rushed to the spot.
