Bus carrying NIT Agartala students and faculty falls in a pond, many injured

All people were rescued by the police and locals and the injured were admitted to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital.

In a mishap near Chakbosta under Ranirbazar police station in the outskirts of Agartala, students, faculty and staff from NIT Agartala were injured when the bus transporting them to the institution overturned and plunged into a pond on Wednesday morning.

Five individuals, sustained minor injuries, were promptly transported to local health centre from where refered to GBP Hospital in Agartala. Following necessary medical attention, they were discharged.

The injured were identified as Snigdha Paul, Sankar Das, Abhishek Singha, Tamanna Das Talukdar and Eka Majumdar.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Manik Saha prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and wrote, “Got the unfortunate news about the tragic bus accident of NIT Agartala. Early in the morning, the bus fell in a pond near to road. Local administration has been instructed to provide all support to the injured.
Prayers for the quick recovery of the injured students, faculty members and other staffs.”

The exact cause of the accident is still not known but fog affecting visibility is not being ruled out.

Police team reached the accident site and is investigating the cause of the accident.
