Toong-Naga Road in North Sikkim Connecting Tourist Destinations of Lachung and Lachen to Reopen on Dec 1

The road had been closed for the past 14 months due to severe landslides, causing significant disruptions for both locals and tourists.

The Toong-Naga Road, a vital link connecting the popular tourist destinations of Lachung and Lachen in North Sikkim, is set to reopen on December 1, 2024.

The road had been closed for the past 14 months due to severe landslides, causing significant disruptions for both locals and tourists. Its reopening brings much-needed relief, especially for the tourism sector, which relies heavily on this route.

Along with the road reopening, officials from the North District Administration have announced that tourist passes for North Sikkim will also be issued starting from December 1. This will streamline the process for visitors looking to explore the region.

Due to the road closure, an alternate route via Dzongu had been used to divert traffic.

However, this route was also temporarily shut down in June when tourists were stranded due to another landslide, leading to the suspension of passes.

The reopening of Toong-Naga Road is expected to boost tourism in North Sikkim, especially during the winter season when the region’s snow-capped landscapes attract travellers from around the world.
