Soreng-Chakung By-Polls in Sikkim: Jacob Khaling Urges SKM Workers to Support CM’s Son Aditya Golay

Jacob Khaling emphasized the importance of unity among party members, and said that there are no internal disputes regarding Golay's candidacy.

As the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) gearing up for the upcoming by-elections in the Soreng-Chakung constituency, Aditya Golay, son of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has emerged as a strong candidate.

Jacob Khaling, the Chief Minister’s Political Secretary, has called on SKM workers to ensure his decisive victory in the upcoming by-election.

Khaling emphasized the importance of unity among party members, and said that there are no internal disputes regarding Golay’s candidacy.

He expressed confidence in Golay’s ability to represent the constituency effectively, citing his previous experience as the MLA from 2019 to 2024.

Aditya, who served as the MLA, stepped down before the 2024 general elections as his father, CM Prem Singh Tamang, contested from the same constituency. In the 2024 Assembly elections, CM Tamang was elected from two seats – Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung but the CM decided to vacate the Soreng-Chakhung seat and continue to represent the Rhenock constituency.

As of now, neither the ruling SKM nor any other political party has officially declared their candidates. However, the SKM has formed a parliamentary board, and a meeting has been held, although the candidate announcement remains pending.

But the fact that Golay is the Chief Minister and party supremo’s son makes him a strong contender in the race.
