Sikkimese Nepali row: Sikkim CM thanks Amit Shah for filing review petition before Supreme Court

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had filed a review petition in Supreme Court on the issue yesterday (February 6).
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today expressed his gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for filing a review petition before the Supreme Court on the apex court’s observation regarding Sikkimese Nepalis.
The Sikkim Chief Minister in a social media post said,”I called on the Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji at Parliament House, New Delhi in the presence of the Hon’ble Speaker (SLA) Shri Arun Upreti and Hon’ble Minister Shri Bedu Singh Panth. I expressed my gratitude to him for filing a review petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and for upholding the sentiments of the Sikkimese people. We respect the concern displayed by the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs, regarding the observations made in the recently pronounced judgment by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and are also thankful for the support rendered to the state government.”
It may be mentioned that, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had filed a review petition in Supreme Court on the issue yesterday (February 6).
Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a social media post had confirmed, “Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) files review petition in Supreme Court against some of the observations and directions in a recent judgement dated 13th January, 2023 in two petitions of 2013 and 2021 filed by Association of Old Settlers of Sikkim and Ors in Supreme Court.”
The Union Home Minister further had affirmed,”GoI reiterated its position about the sanctity of Article 371F of the Constitution that safeguards the Sikkimese identity, which should not be diluted. Further, the observation in the said order about persons of foreign origin settled in Sikkim like Nepalis should be reviewed as the said persons are Sikkimese of Nepali origin.”
