The Sikkim government’s Aama scheme allows women who are married and under the age of 60 to benefit economically

Ahead of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Elections, the Sikkim government this time is focusing on the women of the state and their development.

The government has recently launched a number of schemes and beneficiaries for the women of the state.

In one such effort, the Sikkim Government’s “Aama” (Mother) Scheme for underprivileged married women under the age of 60 will begin on March 3 through the Social Welfare Department.

Women who are married and under the age of 60 will benefit economically from this scheme. The government has chosen 14000 women to receive this benefit in the first phase.

Speaking about the re-verdict issued by the Supreme Court, Minister Sanjeet Kharel of the Social Welfare Department informed that the SKM party will be organising a big Thanks giving programme on March 20. It was also informed that the party will be felicitating Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on this day for having removed the “foreigner” tag put on the Sikkimese and Nepali people.

Earlier in January, Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang declared 365 days (one year) of maternity leave to all expecting casual government women employees, including probationary teachers of the education department.

The Sikkim government also declared one-month paternity leave for all expecting fathers who are Sikkim government employees.

The one-year leave facility and the one-month leave facility will be available to “temporary employees drawing wages or consolidated pay from the Consolidated Fund of the State Government—work-charged, muster roll, ad-hoc, consolidated pay, co-term basis, etc.—including probationary teachers of the Education Department with effect from the date of its announcement,” a Sikkim government order dated January 13, 2023, said.
