Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and expressed his gratitude to the latter for the Centre’s support to the Himalayan state after the aftermath of the devastating flash floods owing to glacial lake outburst in October last year.
The Sikkim CM also appreciated the immediate release of funds by the Centre for relief and restoration works.
Chief Minister also thanked the Home Minister for the swift assessment conducted by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team. He briefly discussed the Post-Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) report, which outlines the funds required for comprehensive recovery. The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Emphasizing the need for continued support for the permanent restoration of damaged infrastructure, the Chief Minister requested the release of additional grants. He highlighted the importance of Shah’s leadership in rebuilding Sikkim and strengthening its resilience against future disasters.
Besides, the Sikkim Chief Minister also met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Taking to social media after meeting Om Birla, the Sikkim CM said, “I paid a courtesy visit to the Hon’ble Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla Ji, at his official residence in New Delhi.
Shri Birla Ji’s wealth of experience and insights into legislative processes were invaluable, and I expressed my appreciation for his contributions to the country’s democratic framework.
We held discussions on various subjects, including the establishment of a coaching institute in Sikkim. I expressed my gratitude to the Hon’ble Speaker for his warm wishes and extended an invitation for him to visit Sikkim in the near future.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge his distinguished service and seek his guidance on pertinent matters.”
CM Tamang also met Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
