Is SKM-BJP alliance on the cards? Amid top BJP leaders denying the alliance of the saffron party with the Prem Singh Tamang-led Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Gangtok MLA cum senior BJP leader, Y T Lepcha, in a big statement said that the BJP and SKM should fight the 2024 elections together as the BJP Sikkim is not in the state of winning the elections alone.
YT Lepcha, speaking to Northeast Live, said that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections need be carried out with the alliance of the BJP and SKM. “If there is no alliance between the BJP and SKM in the upcoming elections, there is no possibility of the BJP acquiring at least 500 votes,” he stated.
He further said that during the past elections, when the BJP sent its candidates for the Panchayat Election, not even a total of 50 votes were acquired by the party.
“But now, due to the utmost support of SKM, we have a councillor in DPH Ward, Gangtok, and also, the support of SKM led to the victory of Rumtek and Gangtok,” he said.
“In order to repay the debt that Sikkim is in right now, an alliance of national and regional parties is necessary,” he added.
