Speaking to Northeast Live, SDF spokesperson JB Darnal said that it was a narrow escape for him and others as they came under the unprecedented attack.

An uneasy calm prevails at Namchi in South Sikkim after SDF leaders were allegedly attacked by SKM supporters this morning. In fact the incident occured at Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s home constituency Poklok Kamrang when the SDF workers were going to take part in the Save Sikkim program.

As per inputs, at least 10 vehicles of the SDF supporters were damaged in the attack, as unidentified miscreants pelted stones.

Speaking to Northeast Live, SDF spokesperson JB Darnal said that it was a narrow escape for him and others as they came under the unprecedented attack.

Darnal said that one can easily understand the prevailing law and order situation in the Himalayan state, since such an incident could happen in the Chief Minister’s constituency.

Recounting the tense situation JB Darnal said, “Somehow I could save myself. When we were coming to Jorethang, at Denzong where the SKM headquarter is situated, they (SKM workers) had laid an ambush and attacked us. Our workers had to flee, as many of them were injured in the attack.”

Darnal added that there were no whereabouts of the SDF workers who went missing after the attack as only 2 vehicles in the SDF rally could reach Namchi, whereas details of 8 other vehicles could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

“We have requested for appropriate security arrangements yesterday itself, but not security personnel was there when the incident took place,” Darnal added.

Meanwhile, Namchi ASP Avishek Ankush assured that the police is following up with necessary action so that such incidents do not repeat and the law and order is intact.
