Marathon Girl of Sikkim, Phurba Tamang, emerges victorious at Kolkata Full Marathon

Phurba faced stiff challenges from seasoned marathoners Anvita Verma and Tamali Basu from Bihar and Delhi, respectively

Phurba Tamang, widely recognized as the “Marathon Girl of Sikkim,” emerged triumphant at the Kolkata Full Marathon, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 3 hours, 23 minutes and 39 seconds covering the challenging 42.2-kilometer distance. Phurba faced stiff challenges from seasoned marathoners Anvita Verma and Tamali Basu from Bihar and Delhi, respectively.

There were a staggering twenty thousand runners participating in the event. In a remarkable achievement, Phurba has now conquered eight elite marathon events across India within a span of just two years, consistently securing a podium finish in each competition.

Tamang’s prowess in marathon running has not only earned her individual accolades but has also led to her appointment as the Race Ambassador for Sikkim Sarathi Run and SMIT Run in the state.
