The Sikkim Chief Minister's Office has filed an FIR with the Gangtok Sadar Police
The Sikkim Police have swung into action against unknown people who have created a fake Facebook account of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Soon after the account came to notice, the Sikkim Chief Minister’s Office filed an FIR at the Gangtok Sadar Police station today. The FIR stated that those who are behind the mischief are also posting unwanted matters through the fake Facebook page.
Significantly, this comes at a time when Sikkim is heading towards the Assembly Elections early this year where Prem Singh Tamang will be seeking a second term as the Chief Minister.
Well this is not the first time that the Sikkim CM has been targetted by the cyber criminals.
Back in March 2021, the Sikkim Chief Minister in a Facebook post had said that his page was “compromised” as miscreants tried to impersonate him with the intention to cause more harm.
However, the issue was resolved within a few hours, reports mentioned.
Last year, Sikkim witnessed a war of words between SKM and the opposition SDF over deepfake row.
The SDF had accused the SKM of preparing deepfake contents to malign the stature of former CM and party Chief Pawan Chamling, the ruling party today termed such allegations as “baseless”.
Condemning the act of levelling such allegations against the SKM, the party in strongest terms said that it was an attempt by the SDF to divert the attention of people.
However, whether the creation of a fake Facebook account of the CM has a political angle into it or not will be revealed only after a probe.
