Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang was present at the celebrations organised by the Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh.
Sakewa festival, the biggest festival of the Rai community of Sikkim, which has recently been in the news because of a political tug of war between ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), was celebrated in Namchi today.
Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang was present at the celebrations organised by the Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh, the apex body of the Rai community in the state.
Speaking at the event CM Tamang cautioned against politicising the festival.
The reaction of the Chief Minister comes after a political row erupted when SDF announced that it would organise a separate Sakewa celebration on December 30 at Legship even as the Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh had announced the state level celebrations today.
The Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh had reacted sharply and accused the SDF of playing politics over the festival.
The Chief Minister, during the festival, also announced the establishment of an art research centre and art gallery named after Bijay Mani Thulung Rai, a renowned artist from the Rai community.
