Nagaland on Saturday, April 29 reported two fresh cases of Covid-19 taking the caseload to 36,002

After being free from Covid-19 cases for almost 3-4 months, in the last few days, the number of active cases of the infection has significantly increased in the Northeastern states, particularly in Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.

Nagaland on Saturday, April 29 reported two fresh cases of Covid-19 taking the caseload to 36,002.

Both fresh cases were reported from Dimapur. With this Nagaland has now five active cases of the infection. The death toll remained unchanged at 782.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya reported the year’s first Covid-related death when a 46-year-old man died in West Garo Hills on April 25.

Following the death, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh asked people not to panic and requested them to seek medical help if they are showing any signs of Covid so that lives can be saved before it is too late.

Citizens travelling with high positivity rates have been requested to take personal precautions.

The minister said that Meghalaya is prepared to handle any Covid situation.

Mizoram reported 17 new Covid cases in between April 27-28. Mizoram now has 41 active Covid cases.

State Health Department said that it is keeping a close watch on the situation.

A health department official said that despite the Omicron variation being present in the state, the Covid-19 transmission is not dangerously deadly, with the exception of the elderly and those with comorbid conditions.

It may be mentioned here that Covid-19 infections have killed 726 people in the state so far, a high majority of them old people and those with comorbidities.

IDSP officials said that 8 persons died due to Covid-19 infections in 2020, which rose to 537 in 2021 and 181 during last year.
