Manipur Minister Awangbow Newmai has been re-elected as the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) President for Manipur State Unit for the third consecutive term today at the NPF Central Office in Kohima. His next tenure will be from 2024–28.
An oath-taking ceremony was held for all the new office-bearers in the NPF office in Kohima. The oath was administered by NPF Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon.
In his address after taking charge, Awangbow reiterated the stand of the NPF Manipur unit and said that any arrangement for a different administrative unit should not touch Naga areas, and Nagas should be consulted before any such arrangement.
He also said that any solution to the Naga peace process should be on the basis of a framework agreement.
He also pointed out that the current Manipur crisis is due to immigrants coming from other countries.
“There has been an abnormal increase in people and villages. Poppy plantations and drug trafficking led to the crisis in Manipur.”
Further, he clarified that the Naga MLAs have not signed any document endorsing the integrity of Manipur state and said that such allegations are baseless.
