Medovi Rhi said the general conference of the NSF at Ukhrul is a symbolic strength of the NSF, an act of conviction and aspiration of the Naga people

The new team of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), led by its President Medovi Rhi, officially took over charge on Saturday in a handing and taking over ceremony at the NSF office in Kohima.

The NSF elected its new President, Medovi Rhi, and new Executive Council during the 30th NSF general conference on August 25 at Ukhrul district headquarters in Manipur.

Addressing the media after the program, President Medovi Rhi expressed his gratitude for reposing faith in him to lead the federation.

He said the recent general conference of the NSF at Ukhrul is a symbolic strength of the NSF, an act of conviction and aspiration of the Naga people to show the strength of the Nagas to the rest of the world.

“Today, I stand here before you with a clear vision of unity, trust, and a sense of patriotism,” added Rhi.

Rhi was previously serving as the Education Secretary to the Federation from 2021–2023.

Outgoing NSF President K.Tep said that his team had faced many challenges, and despite the challenges, the team was able to close its tenure.

Highlighting some of the achievements of the Federation, Tep said the Federation was successful in the introduction and implementation of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), for which he also expressed his gratitude to the government of the day for honouring and respecting the sentiments of the students for transparency and meritocracy in recruitment to government services.

He also lauded the government for lowering the marks of the viva-voce component from 12.5% of the total marks to 5% through an amendment to the NSSB Regulation 2020.

Speaking on the Oting incident (Dec 4, 2021) Tep mentioned that NSF was the only organisation that had demanded a special assembly session to discuss and pass a resolution for the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). The same was promptly done by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on December 20.

The resolution declared for non-cooperation with the Indian Armed Forces still stands, he said, adding that the ultimate goal of the Federation is to achieve a complete repeal of AFSPA from the entire Naga Homeland.

On the issue of the Naga Club building, Tep maintained that the Federation still stands by its resolution that, until and unless the “so-called Naga Club” is mandated by the Naga people, the Federation cannot hand over the sacred building and cannot recognize the existence of the present Naga Club.

Meanwhile, outgoing General Secretary Supuni said the Federation has always and will remain steadfast in its approach and functioning towards ensuring an inclusive, honourable, and acceptable solution for the Naga political issue.
