Nagaland BJP president and Tourism minister Temjen Imna Along's Exclusive Interview with Northeast Live
REPORTED BY SARAH KONYAK
Q1. A lot of political parties including the NCP, LJP even the NPF have come forward extending their support to the ruling government that is Your party BJP and NDPP, what is going to be the face of Nagaland about having an opposition or opposition less government?
Temjen Imna Along: First of all thank you very much; it’s by God’s grace and mandate of the people that I have come back to serve again in whichever capacity.
Secondly, there is so much of perception, you know about the Opposition-less government because it was there before, and during TR’s (Zeliang) time also. But we have to remember that the PDA alliance is a pre-poll alliance, with the NDPP and the BJP. And it is endorsed and committed in bond by the central leaders of the BJP. We have won the election together, 25 from the NDPP and BJP 12, so 37. And we have formed the government under the Chief Ministership of Honourable Neiphiu Rio. So the alliance is doing well and the government will go on. As far as having opposition less or not, that is not for me to comment anything. Because the mandate of the people is for the PDA government. And My central leaders are there, if any issue Hononurable CHief minister Rio and his party will have to speak to Delhi. And then only it is to be seen what has to be done.
Q2. CM Rio recently said that he welcomes Opposition less government so can we expect any word from the BJP high command in the coming days?
Temjen Imna Along: I have no idea. As far as the BJP Nagaland is concerned we have no central directive from our high command in any way to go for an opposition-less government. Unless My leaders, the BJP leaders from Delhi directs us, we are not into it.
Q3. As a president of Nagaland BJP do YOu and a minister, do you think it will be nice to have an Opposition less government again?
Temjen Imna Along: Just for being nice we cannot have an Opposition less government. The government at present PDA, NDPP BJP is comfortable and the NDPP BJP has got it’s mandate. We have formed the government under Rio’s leadership. I think we should go on like this.
Q4. So You also opt to have an Opposition or what do You say because a lot of the people’s voice is that an Opposition less government will do no good to the people.
Temjen Imna Along: You have to understand one thing. The BJP party is a nationalist party where our central leaders take such decisions. So the time may come when the central leaders may give us any kind of directive, and we follow it. So until that happens, for me to say whether I opt or not is not the issue.
Q5. CM Rio, Deputy CM, few of the party leaders from the NDPP and also a few ministers are there in Delhi for the past few days. Will You also be visiting the national capital and meet Your high command?
Temjen Imna Along: The Honourable Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister is there to give thanks to the Honourable leaders of the nation and say the concerns of the government and it’s needs. And for me also I will go there very soon with regards to My department and also go and meet my party leaders and say thank you.
