DGP Sharma, informed that the two accused have gone underground after the crime.

Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma said today the police has got enough leads regarding the whereabouts of the two wanted cadres of NSCN K (Niki Sumi) and they would be making arrests soon.

“We have made substantial progress and have received some leads, which we are actively pursuing. We are making every possible effort to arrest them,” said the DGP.

The DGP have cautioned people that any individual giving  shelter or harboring the two wanted cadres will face the law and wrath of the public. He also appealed to NSCN K (Niki Sumi) to help the police if they know about their whereabouts citing that this will be a good opportunity to build good relation with the police and the public.

The DGP added, “If anyone is interacting with or providing shelter to these individuals, be aware of the legal consequences. Rewards were previously announced for providing information about them.”

DGP Sharma, said this while speaking to reporters on the sideline of a programe today, at the police headquarters in Kohima this morning.

The Dimapur Police had released a “Wanted” notice for two individuals on October 13, including a Kilonser of the NSCN-K (Niki), accused of abducting two persons on October 10.

The notification, issued by Commissioner of Police (CP) Kevithuto Sophie, identified the first individual as Khevini T Yepthomi (50 years), a Kilonser under NSCN-K (Niki) and the second individual was identified as ‘Ilhovi @ Kimeyeto,’ designated as an accomplice of the Kilonser.

Both individuals are wanted in connection with Dimapur East Police Station Case No. 173/24 under Section 140 (2)/140 (3)/3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, it said.

Section 140 of the BNS deals with kidnapping or abduction with the intent to murder or for ransom and so on.

DGP Sharma, informed that the two accused have gone underground after the crime. He said, the police have made substantial progress in the case and are working on the leads.

On query to the strong voice of the people for reviewing of the Ceasefire Ground Rules, DGP Sharma said, “The CFMG ground rules have been negotiated by various groups with the GoI, and in most cases they are quite old. The evolution of the ceasefire ground rules should be a dynamic process. If there are problems with the implementation we need to look at it and if there are ambiguities in the CF ground rules which are giving enough room for the Faction or even the government agencies to violate them or if there is ambiguity in interpretation I think those ambiguities needs to be closed down or if it can done through interpretation at the level of the chairman CFMG or the CFSB.

Nagaland Police and Government of Nagaland will welcome that if that resolution can take place at this level however if there is a larger issue of interpretation and the GoI has to be approached so that the signatories can fully agree to amendment of the groundrules, NP and GoN is open to that.”

Meanwhile, the DGP have once again appealed to the citizens of Nagaland to come forward and report of any crime especially, extortions, kidnapping and drug related cases. He assured that the identity of the complainants will not he disclosed.
