This will be the last Assembly Session ahead of the Assembly Elections that will take place around November-December this year

The Monsoon Session of the Mizoram Assembly would begin from August 22. This Session would be the last Session before the Assembly Elections that would take place later this year.

The business advisory committee (BAC), which is likely to hold a meeting soon, will decide the businesses to be taken up during the coming Session and the length of the Session.

Elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly would be held around November-December this year.

In the 2018 assembly polls, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) won the elections by bagging 26 seats, the newly formed Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) won 8 seats, and the Congress scored 5 seats.

The BJP opened its account for the first time in the history of the state by winning the Tuichawng constituency in the southern tip of the state when former minister Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma came out victorious.

The MNF snatched two more seats in by-elections to increase its number of legislators to 28, while the ZPM leader, disqualified by the assembly speaker, was re-elected in the by-election in Serchhip assembly constituency.
