But MNF leader and Mizoram cabinet minister Robert Romawia Royte has rejected the claims made by Mhonlumo Kikon
With just a few days to go for the Mizoram Assembly elections, BJP national spokesperson and party in-charge for Mizoram, Mhonlumo Kikon has dropped a bombshell. He told Northeast Live that many of the ruling MNF (Mizo National Front) and ZPM (Zoram People’s Movement) candidates are in touch with BJP.
Kikon, participating in Northeast Live’s flagship show, Northeast Tonight said, “I would like to inform that in the next one week or so you will see, even some people whose names have been declared as candidate by MNF, ZPM are in touch with us. So, we are also a little confused and a bit confident over the developments.”
MNF leader and Mizoram minister Robert Romawia Royte who was also on the show, was quick enough to rebut Kikon’s claims. He ruled out that any of his party MLAs are in touch with the Saffron party. “Let me tell you very clearly that none of the MLAs or leaders are in touch with the BJP. That is very clear. I don’t whether the MLA candidates from the ZPM and other parties are in touch with BJP or not. But it is not the case with MNF.”
Royte in fact is confident that the MNF will sail through in the elections comfortably.
Speaking about the MNF’s prospects in the ensuing elections, Royte said, “During the last 5 years MNF party did fairly well in infra development, in fulfilment of its promises made in its manifesto and also working with the NGOs, the churches and the general public. In addition to this the MNF’s noble aim and objective since its birth in 1961- the integration of all the Mizo inhabited areas of the world, we could not better realise it till now, but the idea was revived like anything because of the new development in the adjoining states of Manipur also in the independent states of Myanmar and even Bangladesh.”
So the feeling of nationalism, the rise of Mizo nationalism amongst the Mizo youths coupled with the good achievements of the state government will ensure victory for the MNFin the ensuing election.”
Asked as to how many seats the BJP will be contesting, Kikon stated, “We will be contesting in all the 40 seats and we will be declaring our list of candidates soon. We are preparing for the election.”
