Mission Olympics 2036 in India: Mizoram govt organises 2-day Sports Conclave on June 13-14

With an eye on helping players from Mizoram and the northeast win medals at the Olympic Games 2036, Mizoram government has decided to organise a 2-day sports conclave in Aizawl beginning June 13. The sporting event, ‘Vision 2036 Mizoram Sports Conclave’ will be a national level event.
Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar elaborating on the idea said, “Mizoram Sports Conclave will be the first-of-its kind in Mizoram. This is going to be held on June 13 and 14. This will be all about the vision of the Mizoram government when it comes to sports. I met Union Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur in the beginning of this year in which I mentioned about India hosting 2036 Olympics. I met Anurag Thakur again in Guwahati and we spoke about this Vision 2036. With this background, Mizoram wanted to start the Vision 2036 Mizoram Sports Conclave. So we are going to discuss about future of Mizoram sports as well as Indian sports and what are the future prospects of India as well as what are the medal prospects for the Mizo sportspersons. This is all about the background of the Mizoram Sports Conclave.”
Lalnghinglova Hmar stated that officials from the Sports and Youth Services Department submitted a proposal for the Mizoram Sports Conclave preparing Mizoram for Olympic Games 2036 and got a sanction of Rs. 68,80,500 from the Scheme of Human Resources Development in Sports on February 2, 2024. He added that the Sports Conclave is not going to be a single event but that a plan has been made to organize it every or alternate years.
The event, jointly organised by the Mizoram State Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports will be held between June 13-14, 2024 at Baptist Centre, Falkland.
Hmar said, “The sports Conclave was originally slated to be held on March but had to be postponed due to the Lok Sabha election. We will be having the Sports Minister’s from Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya and the Chief Minister of Mizoram to grace the event as speakers.”
The Conclave will also host several dignitaries including Sports Authority of India (SAI) Director General, Indian Olympic Association CEO, and Secretaries from Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Services Sports Council Board (SSCB).
