Mara youth organization to seal Mizoram-Myanmar border over killing of 3 Mizoram residents in Myanmar

On March 22, the bodies of Biaksuii Lathlafamkima (37) and Bablu Talukdar (44) were found on inside Myanmar after being reported missing on March 19 evening

The Mara ThyutliaPy (MTP), or Mara youth organisation, headquartered at Chhuarlung in southern Mizoram’s Siaha district has decided to indefinitely seal the Mizoram-Myanmar border in their sector from Wednesday.

The decision came close on the heels of the murder of three persons from Mizoram, including two persons from Chhuarlung village, inside Myanmar.

The central committee of the Young Lai Association (CYLA), the largest civil society in neighbouring Lawngtlai district, also condemned the triple murder inside Myanmar and warned that such incidents should not occur in the future.

A press statement issued by the CYLA reminded that the people of Mizoram acknowledged the sufferings of the people in Myanmar due to persecution by the military junta and the raging civil war in that country.

While tens of thousands of refugees from Myanmar were welcomed with open arms and provided food and other humanitarian assistance by the people of Mizoram, this kind of incident can spark unwanted repercussions, the statement warned.

The CYLA also said that this kind of incident can result in the estrangement of good relationships between the Mizo brothers and sisters living in Mizoram and Myanmar.

“We are making arrangements to make more restrictions in looking after the refugees,” the CYLA said, and warned that a recurrence of such an incident might create an unwanted atmosphere in the state against the refugees.

Baby Iallensung, the daughter of one of the victims, Biaksuii (48), of Siaha district, issued a statement accusing ZawOo and Aung Ling, both members of the Chin Defence Force (CDF) of Mindat in Chin state, of being the killers of the 3 people.

Tiallensung also said that the perpetrators of the murder must be at least five persons, but he did not name any other persons as the ‘murderers’ in the statement.

“Though PDF-Mindat said that ZawOo and Aung Ling have left the militia and are no longer their cadres, they should take responsibilities on what the two Mindat clan members did and try to bring them to justice,” she said.

She also said that as the place of occurrence of the murder was in the Zophei area near Ngalang village, which is under the jurisdiction of CDF-Zophei, they should also take responsibility to nab the two culprits.

Biaksuii herself is originally from Thantlang town in Chin state of Myanmar and migrated to Mizoram in 2001, police reports said, adding that there has been no breakthrough in the investigation of the triple murder inside Myanmar.

On March 22, the bodies of Biaksuii Lathlafamkima (37) and Bablu Talukdar (44) were found on inside Myanmar after being reported missing on March 19 evening.

As per inputs, Suiteii Chinzah and Bablu Talukdar were taken away from their Siaha house early on March 19 by a person they knew.

They were then driven to the border in a mini-truck by B. Lalthafamkima (22), who lives in the nearby village of Lungpher in the Lawngtlai district.

Ainak villagers informed investigators that the three persons, along with a Myanmarese, headed to Myanmar via Ainak to collect more money for buying AK-47 assault rifles and also to evacuate a sick person to Mizoram.

Meanwhile, a criminal case under relevant sections has been booked on March 23 in regard to the gory incident.
