Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said this after visiting the Adokgre RMSA Higher Secondary School following complaints of cracks developing in the school building within weeks of completing the construction work

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today warned contractors engaged in government projects of stern action if found indulging in poor-quality work.

Without mincing words, the Chief Minister said that there will be zero tolerance against any contractor found involved in shoddy construction work.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister said this after visiting the Adokgre RMSA Higher Secondary School following complaints of cracks developing in the school building for which construction was completed just few months back.

Chief Minister Sangma reviewed the condition of the school building and directed the Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills district to immediately probe the matter and take action against the erring contractors.

This was informed by the Meghalaya Chief Minister’s Office in a series of tweets.

The Meghalaya CMO stated, “Following complaints from the public and the MLA of Kharkutta regarding the substandard construction of Adokgre RMSA Higher Secondary School, Hon’ble Chief Minister @SangmaConrad inspected the school today.

He directed the DC of North Garo Hills to immediately constitute an enquiry and take necessary action against the contractors.

He also issued a stern warning to other contractors engaged in government projects, stating that the government will not tolerate any substandard work.”

Allegations are that, the school building has been so poorly constructed, that despite the structure being completed, students have not used the facility fearing that it could collapse at any moment.

On May22, the Garo Students Union (GSU) – Adokgre unit expressed their sheer disappointment over what has taken place and met the DC of NGH to submit a complaint on the matter.

As per inputs, videos of the building showing how easily the construction wore off have been circulating on social media drawing anger against the department as well as the contractor responsible for the work.
