Has the issue of the ongoing protest by contractual teachers in Meghalaya turned political? It all started after BJP MLA AL Hek today lashed out and demanded that home minister Lahkmen Rymbui must step down on moral grounds. Hek’s reaction comes a day after the Meghalaya police resorted to lathi charge and firing tear gas shells against the agitating teachers. The BJP leader strongly condemned the action of the Meghalaya police against the agitating members of the Meghalaya Government Lower Primary School Contractual Teachers’ Association and termed it as inhumane.
The teachers have been camping for a month in front of the Civil Hospital demanding their reinstatement.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has made will amply clear that he will not resign from his post. Rymbui’s statement comes soon after BJP MLA AL Hek demanded that the home minister must step down. It may be mentioned that Lahkmen Rymbui is also facing the heat from within his party UDP with a section of leaders demanding his resignation.
