A ruckus broke out in the emergency unit of the NEIGRIHMS hospital in Shillong after a youth succumbed to his injuries

Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday sought a report from the NEIGRIHMS director following allegations of no doctors being present at the emergency unit of the hospital, due to which a youth succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

“We have sought a report, with a hope that I will be able to understand better what exactly happened. I have directed the director of NEIGHRIMS to kindly serve and inform me on details of what exactly transpired. I believe that it is very unfortunate incident, and very sad that we have lost a life, and we will work hard towards ensuring that these incidences do not occur again and again because then there’s going to be feeling of let down by the public,” Ampareen Lyngdoh said.

“I send my condolences to the family that lost a very valuable soul and I assure the family that I will enquire and ask what is going on,” Ampareen Lyngdoh added.

Responding to ordering an inquiry into the incident, Ampareen said, “I’m not authorised to order an enquiry. I can only share information with the director. We will ensure that together we can see whether or not we can better ourselves, but facts of the incidents also have to be absorbed.”

The health minister also said that it’s not good to get into a conflict situation with the institute of NEIGHRIMS, as “we need the NEIGHRIMS to function for our people.”

A ruckus broke out in the emergency unit of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hospital in Shillong on Sunday after a youth succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased’s friends and relatives alleged that no doctors were available at the hospital on Sunday, due to which the patient succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased suffered injuries after the scooter in which he was traveling collided with a SUV.
