Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today took credit of creating more sports infrastructures during his regime since 2018 as compared to what was done during the past governments.
Laying the base for an artificial football turf at the Riangdo Playground in West Khasi Hills district, Chief Minister Sangma said that his government has prioritized to boost the sports infrastructure in the state, so that the budding talents can acquire proper skills to perform their best.
“The government has constructed more stadiums and infrastructures in the last five years than what was made in the last 45 years put together and this is a reflection of the commitment of the government towards the cause of the youth and allowing them to follow and excel in their passion,” CM Sangma said.
Taking to social media, the Meghalaya CM shared similar thoughts and said, “In the last 5 years we have created more sports infrastructures than what was done in the last 45 years in our state. We have gone on mission mode to create sports infrastructure across the state, giving our youth in rural areas opportunities to hone their talents. This is an investment in the youth of Meghalaya and we will continue our efforts to ensure we see our children shine in national and international platforms.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted about the different financial assistance programs, cash awards and scholarships of the government to medal winners so that the youngsters are incentivized to carry and invest in the sport that they have excelled.
Approximately Rs 10 crores is being sanctioned for the improvement and upgradation of the Riangdo Playground and the estimated time for completion is 18 months, CM Conrad Sangma informed.
