Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh was attacked by a man carrying a machete (a huge khasi knife) at her home on Tuesday around 7.30 pm.

“I am a little shaken, but it’s okay I will get over it. Now I know that there are likely some people who will do anything to even harm me. But I appeal to people who love me don’t think that this is something that I am intermediated by. I am not afraid and I will continue to work hard and speak and be the voice of the people of Meghalaya,” said Minister Lyngdoh after the attack.

Stones were pelted and window panes shattered of her residence in Laitumkhrah as the minister and her family came under attack.

Minister Lyngdoh rushed to her bedroom when she heard glass shattering in that direction. Her daughter’s room was attacked first. Stones were pelted and the window panes broke.

Minister Lyngdoh said that she rushed outside to look for the people who was doing all this. Her husband, son and driver too rushed out. They saw a man in the CCTV.

Lyngdoh said that she had already alerted the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills Sylvester Nongtynger when stones were thrown at her home and the police had already arrived at her home when the attack on Lyngdoh occurred.

She also said that she was attacked by the same person before the recent state Assembly elections.
