Meghalaya: Is there a secret understanding between TMC and BJP? questions Congress

According to George V Lyngdoh, had the TMC gone into a seat sharing with the Congress in West Bengal, than similar arrangements could have been made in Meghalaya too.

Meghalaya Congress Legislature Party leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh has slammed the TMC, a constituent of the I.N.D.I.A block led by the Congress.

The Congress leader’s statement came after the TMC decided to field Zenith Sangma from the Tura seat.

Referring to the political developments in West Bengal, Lyngdoh accused and questioned as to whether the TMC has gone into a secret alliance with the BJP.

Lyngdoh said, “Compared to West Bengal which has about 42 Lok Sabha seats, Meghalaya has only 2 seats. So if they say that we went ahead and declared candidates in Meghalaya, that’s why TMC is not willing to work with us, why don’t they declare that they have come into an agreement, seat sharing in West Bengal.

We would like to question TMC leaders- have you got some understanding with the BJP, is there a secret understanding between the TMC and the BJP, to prevent consolidation of votes, people who would like to see a secular, democratic country like India and defeat BJP which is communal and trying to polarize people on so many issues.”

According to George V Lyngdoh, had the TMC gone into a seat sharing with the Congress in West Bengal, than similar arrangements could have been made in Meghalaya too.

Lyngdoh in support of his claims stated, “Now let us put that question, why does not the TMC who is part of the I.N.D.I.A block come to an understanding and come to a seat sharing in West Bengal. If they had done that in West Bengal, perhaps we could have done it in Meghalaya too. Or is there some understanding between the TMC and the BJP, so that opposition votes get divided and benefits the BJP? How does it benefit the TMC by not working with the INDIA block, with the Congress? Or is to benefit the BJP to ensure that apparently to appear that TMC and BJP do not have any understanding. But facts state otherwise.”

The Meghalaya Congress has already announced its list of candidates for the 2 parliamentary seats in the state. Incumbent MP Vincent Pala will be contesting from the Shillong seat while, Saleng Sangma will be in the fray from the Tura Lok Sabha seat.

The TMC meanwhile, has fielded Zenith Sangma from the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
