First Published: 1st August, 2023 13:21 IST

HNYF clarified that the person involved in demanding the money is not in anyway associated with the HNLC.

The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has affirmed that it is ready to help any individual who has been served with extortion demands in the name of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

The HNYF statement comes after it received an information from a shopowner in Mawlai that she was given a demand note of Rs 20 lakh. The shopowner in an e-mail to the the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) had informed that she was served with a Rs 20 lakh demand note by one Synshar Khymdei, who claimed himself to be the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) area collector (East Khasi Hills & Ri Bhoi).

In response to this the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) clarified that the person involved in demanding the money is not in anyway associated with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

One of the HNYF leaders said, “We recieved a complaint from a shopowner in Mawlai who said that she got a demand of Rs 20 lakh from HNLC. We are here to clarify that this demand come from HNLC and the HNLC and the HNYF are not connected with Synshar Khymdei. We want to make it clear that this man is not related to the HNLC in anyway.”

In a clear cut message, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) representatives requested all those, who have been served with demand notes in the name of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), to come to the office of the HNYF as the organization is ready to help them.

The HNYF suspects the involvement of “black sheep” behind the demand notes by dragging the name of the HNLC in an attempt to derail the peace process.
