Tynsong dismissed the idea of four-lane roads in and around Shillong city

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the government has proposed to build a few stretches of four-laned roads in the New Shillong Township area of the state. He also said that government aims for maximum number of roads connecting national highways, be it the Shillong by-pass or the Shillong-Jowai national highway.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Tynsong said that a meeting has been called today with the Bypass Division of roads, the National Highway Division along with Revenue and Forest Division as well as the District Commissioner, Meghalaya to discuss ways to build maximum approach roads to national highways so that congestion of roads in the state is bought to a zero level.

Tynsong dismissed the idea of four-lane roads in and around Shillong city and said that the building of an intermediate lane on Shillong roads will be considered an achievement.

With the traffic situation worsening in the winter months with the influx of tourists as well as the organization of various festivals, recently, on November 20, the Meghalaya High Court rapped the state government observing that there has hardly been any improvement in the decongestion of traffic in Shillong roads despite the engagement of professional agencies.

Earlier in the year, the Meghalaya DGP L.R Bishnoi also suggested the idea of deploying drones to monitor the traffic situation in the state.
