Meghalaya: Govt plans to shift Secretariat

"We are examining as to which one will be the better option & also the better option for the people most importantly," CM Sangma said.

The Meghalaya government is exploring possibilities to shift the Secretariat and other important offices from the heart of Shillong.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took it upon himself to inspect the proposed sites for this project.

Chief Minister Sangma said that the government has earmarked the locations of Mawdiangdiang and Mawpdang for shifting the Secretariat and other departmental offices.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister said, “We are examining as to which one will be the better option for us and also the better option for the people of the state most importantly. After coming here we have seen that this area has been divided & given to different departments. So some rearrangements have to be done.”

Besdies, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also said that government has been able to re-arrange 220 acres of land which should be sufficient for the purpose.

CM Conrad Sangma said that some other department offices can also be set up at the Mawpdang area.

Chief Minister Sangma highlighted the fact that Mawdiandiang is closer to Shillong and perhaps will be a better option for the government besides for the public most importantly.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister also added that his government is also mulling and examining different aspects to connect the proposed Secretariat complex site with Shillong city through new roads.

However, everything is at a planning stage and the cabinet will take a final decision within a few weeks, the Meghalaya Chief minister said.
