Its good music, good food and lots of cherry blossom
This Shilling Cherry Blossom Festival is going to be a visual and musical treat. It will be a musical extravaganza to remember. From the iconic R&B, reggae, funk and disco music group Boney M. of the 70s to the hip-hop star of the early noughties, Akon, along with R3HAB, Queen Sensation, Korn Sk, and Indian sensations Jasleen Royal and Kanika Kapoor, are all set to set the stage on fire during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival that will take place on November 15-16 at the Madan Kurkalang Stadium in Bhoirymbong, Ri-Bhoi District.
Adding the magical local musical flavours will be the local favourites, Great Society and Jessie Lyngdoh.
Of course, the delicate pink and white flowers of the cherry trees will just add to the picturesque landscape as the cherry blossoms paint the town in the hues of soft baby pink.
In addition to the musical performances, the festival is expected to draw up to 30,000 visitors daily, not just for the music but also for its rich cultural offerings. This year, the festival will feature a special Japanese village, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in Japanese culture. From traditional Japanese crafts to authentic food stalls, the village will bring a slice of Japan to Shillong, enhancing the multicultural atmosphere of the event.
The Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival has firmly established itself as one of North East India’s premier cultural and commercial events. It attracts visitors from across the country and abroad, eager to experience a perfect blend of music, culture, and the region’s natural beauty. With international artists on the roster and the addition of the Japanese village, this year’s festival is set to be even more exciting.
If you thought Cherry Blossom Festival is just about music and the cherry blossoms, well, that is not so. While enjoying some hip hop, rock and roll music you can also treat your taste buds to some authentic Khasi and Garo cuisine along with some artisan confections. Also available will be some Korean and Chinese food and don’t miss the home grown coffee of Meghalaya.
