Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday inspected two incomplete healthcare institutions–the Maternity and Child Health Hospital (MCH) at Niangbyrnai Parila, and the Trauma Centre in Nongpoh and the functional School of GNM at Pahamsyiem in Ri Bhoi district and assured speedy completion of the institutes.
She took stock of the construction work and pointed at areas that still needed to be completed to ensure that the institutes function properly as soon as possible.
Minister Lyngdoh has set deadlines for the various departments engaged in the construction of the institutes to speed up work and complete the projects on time.
Speaking to the media, Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that it will take some more time to operate the MCH hospital after the construction is complete. A review meeting to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply to the medical facilities would be held on May 10.
She said that the Trauma Centre in Nongpoh is a vital intervention because it is strategically located on the highway and will be given an essential service to the people of Meghalaya.
There are a few snags as the building was utilised as a COVID-19 centre and also the DM&HO office is being run from the building, but soon the building will be freed as the construction of the new DM&HO office is almost completed, Minister Lyngdoh added.
The health minister further added that the state government is fast-tracking the physical progress. Right now it is about 55 to 60% and the government hope that in another 2 to 3 months if weather permits the construction of the institutions will be completed after relocating DM&HO office to another place.
To ensure that the Operation Theatres are fully furnished and can be made operational before Christmas this year, the health minister assured that equipment will be tendered as soon as possible.
