5G services across Meghalaya soon, Cabinet clears amendment to telecom policy

The Meghalaya government has promised to revolutionize internet accessibility across the state, ensuring high-speed connectivity by 2025

To facilitate and expedite the 5G rollout in the state and strengthen the internet facilities, the Meghalaya cabinet has approved the amendment to the Meghalaya Telecom Infrastructure Policy 2018.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the state Government has decided to make few additions in line with Government of India’s Telecom Infrastructure policy.

Speaking to media, Tynsong said, “Relating to the amendment of the Meghalaya Telecom Infrastructure Policy (MTIP), which has been in place since 2018, few changes have been made by the Government of India. The state government has also decided to make a few additions. The cabinet today has approved the few amendments that we decided to make.”

It may be mentioned here that dedicated towards digital inclusivity, the Meghalaya government has promised to revolutionize internet accessibility across the state, ensuring high-speed connectivity even in the remotest corners by 2025.

Meghalaya’s capital Shillong is already covered under Airtel’s 5G network. The telecom service provider had launched its 5G services in Shillong in January this year and said that Airtel 5G Plus services will be available to customers in the capital city in a phased manner as the company continues to construct its network and complete the roll-out.
