As per MoHUA report, only one out of 96 Shillong Smart City projects has been completed worth Rs. 1,039 crores

Four cities in the Northeast have been listed as the worst performers in terms of implementing smart city projects by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

The cities include Meghalaya, Guwahati, Imphal, and Aizawl.

Likewise, cities like Amaravati, Diu, Greater Warangal, Kavaratti, Port Blair, and Puducherry have also been listed in the worst performing cities.

Reacting to this, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that though he had no idea about the criteria, but added that Meghalaya has been fast in implementing various projects in the state.

He added that the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) will be ready by the end of the year.

“We don’t know what the criteria is but our state which has been very fast in implementing all the projects in the polo areas is being done by the smart city project so it’s in very advance stage. At the same time the Integrate command centre and Control Center (ICCC) will be ready by the end of this year. So in all the projects we are moving forward,” CM Sangma said.

“As per information and knowledge we have been working hard and the performance of the division and the smart city has been overall very good and most of the projects are going on in full swing,” CM Sangma added.

As per MoHUA report, only one out of 96 Shillong Smart City projects has been completed worth Rs. 1,039 crores.

A total of Rs 349 crore was sanctioned in February for the implementation of the smart city project in Shillong.

The fund consisted of a central grant of Rs 294 crore and a state share of Rs 55 crore, Deputy Chief Minister in Charge of Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told the state Assembly on March 28.

A total of 18 projects are being undertaken under the Shillong Smart City program.

Similarly, as per Niti Aayog reports, only nine out of 185 projects worth a total of ₹2,256 crores have been completed.

Earlier, Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia claimed that over 30 projects are being executed under the Smart City Mission and 3 of them have been completed.
