Over 250 Israelis were killed in the surprise attack on southern Israel by Hamas, a Palestinian militant group that fired more than 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip toward Israel early Saturday morning.
Over 300 Palestinians have died in Israeli bombardments of the restricted Gaza territory following the massive Hamas strike that caught Israel off guard.
As per Israeli official, over 100 soldiers and civilians have been kidnapped by Hamas. “Terrorists rampaged and broke into homes, massacring civilians. Hundreds had invaded the country, hundreds are still fighting troops inside Israel,” army spokesman Richard Hecht said.
Since 2007, the Palestinian enclave has effectively been under an Israeli land, sea, and air blockade.
The latest attack comes after Israel closed its borders to Gazan workers.
Hundreds of Hamas militants have infiltrated Israel in SUVs, motorcycles, and paragliders and opened fire at civilians. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared “war” and said his country would extract an “unprecedented price” from its enemy. “We are at war, not in an operation or in rounds, but at war.
Meanwhile, the India Embassy in Israel has asked its citizens to remain vigilant and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities.
“Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and stay close to safety shelters,” an advisory by the Indian embassy read.
India has also set up a helpline and an email address for citizens to reach out.
