Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the nation in the historic 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, his monthly radio address to the nation.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the country’s change-makers during #MannKiBaat@100.
Among the change makers was Manipur girl Vijayashanti Devi who makes clothes from lotus fibers with her unique eco-friendly idea.
The Prime Minister lauded Vijayashanti Devi’s eco-friendly creativity of making clothes out of lotus fibers and wished her good luck in going global with her products.
Introducing Vijayashanti in the conversation, PM Modi said, “Friends, you may remember that a few episodes ago I had also mentioned about Manipur’s sister Vijayashanti Devi. Vijayashanti ji makes clothes from lotus fibers. This unique eco-friendly idea of her was discussed in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and her work became more popular.”
PM Narendra Modi spoke to Vijayashanti Devi on a phone call during the programme.

Prime Minister: Namaste Vijayashanti ji! How are you?
Vijayashanti Devi: Sir, I am fine.
Prime Minister: How’s your work going on?
Vijayashanti Devi: Sir, still working along with my 30 women
Prime Minister: In such a short period you have reached 30 person team!
Vijayashanti Devi: Yes sir, this year also more expand with 100 women in my area
Prime Minister: So your target is 100 women
Vijayashanti Devi: Yaa! 100 women
Prime Minister: And now people are familiar with this lotus stem fiber
Vijayashanti Devi: Yes sir, everyone knows from ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Program all over India.
Prime Minister: So now its very popular
Vijayashanti Devi: Yes sir, from Prime Minister ‘Mann ki Baat’ program everyone knows about lotus fiber
Prime Minister: So now you got the market also?
Vijayashanti Devi: Yes, I have got a market from USA also they want to buy in bulk in lots quantities, but I want to give from this year to send the U.S also.
Prime Minister: So, now you are an exporter?
Vijayashanti Devi: Yes sir, from this year I export our product made in India Lotus fiber
Prime Minister:- So, when I say Vocal for Local and now Local for Global
Vijayashanti Devi:- Yes sir, I want to reach my product all over the globe of all world
Prime Minister: So congratulations and wish you best of luck
Vijayashanti Devi:- Thank you, Sir
In a first, the 100th episode was also broadcast live in the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Apart from 22 Indian languages and 29 dialects, Mann Ki Baat was broadcast in 11 foreign languages including French, Chinese, Indonesian, Tibetan, Burmese, Baluchi, Arabic, Pashtu, Persian, Dari and Swahili. Mann Ki Baat was broadcast by more than 500 broadcast centres of All India Radio.
The programme, that was started on October 3, 2014, has proven to be an essential part of the government’s citizen outreach program, which targets a variety of social groups, including women, youth, and farmers, and encourages community action.
