T Satyabrata Singh has been elected as the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Satyabrata Singh was unanimously elected by both the treasurer and opposition bench as the Speaker of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Noteworthy here is that Satyabrata was the lone BJP MLA is the fray for the post of Speaker. So his election to the Speaker’s post was almost certain with no opposition at hand.
Satyabrata Singh was a former cabinet minister who was re-elected to the Yaiskul seat while defeating his main rival the NPP’s H. Vikram Singh.
Meanwhile, Manipur Governor La Ganesan today addressed the assembly after the election of the new Speaker. Addressing the newly formed assembly, Governor La Ganesan highlighted the work of the Biren Singh government during the last term. The Manipur Governor thanked the elected MLAs for the successful conducting of the recent state elections.
