Miscreants Use Locally-Made Unguided Missiles, Foreign-Made Bombs In Fresh Attack, Civilian Death Toll Rises to 4 in Jiribam

A 13-hour shutdown in hill areas of Manipur is underway to protest the deaths of 10 armed men in Jiribam
Heavy overnight gunfire and a total shutdown in hill areas has again put Manipur on the boil. The death toll of civilians in Jiribam district, the new hotbed of violence in the state, has gone up to 4 post the attack by armed miscreants.
Two people died during the attack by armed miscreants yesterday and 5 people were reported missing. Two of the five missing people were found dead early today.
Heavy firing was reported since early today morning in the villages of Kangchup, Koutruk, and Phayeng in Imphal West. According to reports coming in, the fire is coming from Kangpokpi hills.
Meanwhile, sharing details of yesterday’s incident in Jakuradhor, under Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam District, Manipur Police said in a tweet, “Today, 11th November, 2024 at about 3 pm, the CRPF Post located at Jakuradhor and Borobekra Police Station (located nearby), Jiribam District were attacked by armed militants. The security forces retaliated strongly. Due to the attack, one CRPF constable namely Sanjeev Kumar sustained bullet injury and has been evacuated to Silchar Medical College, Assam and is under treatment. The attack was fiercely retaliated by CRPF and Civil Police. After 40 – 45 minutes of heavy exchange of fire, the situation was brought under control. After the firing ceased, the area was searched and 10 (ten) dead bodies of armed militants were recovered along with arms and ammunition (3 nos. of AKs, 4nos. of SLRs, 2 nos. of INSAS, 01 no. of RPG, 01 no. of Pump Action Gun, BP Helmets and Magazines) Accordingly, a criminal case has been registered and is being investigated into. Operations in and around Jakuradhor, under Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam District continues to flush out armed militants. Reinforcement teams consisting of Assam Rifles, CRPF and Civil Police have been rushed there”.

On November 7, 2024, a woman was killed and houses were torched in Jiribam district.
On November 9, a woman was killed after being hit by a bullet during firing by miscreants from the Churachandpur hills while she along with several others was working in paddy fields in Saiton, under the Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur.
Meanwhile, a 13-hour shutdown called by the Kuki Zo Council in the tribal areas of Manipur started at 5 AM today. This is in protest against the death of 10 armed miscreants who were killed in retaliatory firing by security forces including CRPF in Jiribam district yesterday.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) has claimed that those killed in the encounter were Hmar village volunteers who were on patrolling duty to sanitize tribal areas. The ITLF in a press statement has also claimed that 11 Hmar village volunteers were killed in the encounter. Authorities have not identified the dead armed men.
