The song has highly objectionable lyrics that amount to hate speech and even incite genocide

A popular Meitei singer Jayenta Loukrakpam, known by his stage name Tapta, has stirred a big row with an extremely controversial song calling for genocide of Kukis.

An FIR has been filed by the Zomi Students Federation or the ZSF against Tapta over the release of the song on July 7.

The song has highly objectionable lyrics that amount to hate speech and even incite genocide.

Among other things, the song says that Meiteis will never have peace until every Kuki is killed.

The song also demeans the Indian army with derogatory lines mentioned against the force.

There are other lines in the song which say, “What you want is a homeland, what we desire is your soul.

Once the army releases their grip, the Kukis shall be eliminated.

Even if peace returns, Meiteis will not stop this war.

We will never have peace until every Kuki is killed.”

In the song, Tapta blames the Kukis for the ongoing violence and other ills and has no qualms about saying that the Meiteis will continue this war till the end.

The song comes at a time when Manipur is struggling to contain the unrest that broke out on May 3rd.

The question that arises is can the authorities allow such an act when misunderstanding between two ethnic communities in Manipur is at its peak?

Could not the police have taken suo moto cognizance of things? Will right thinking artistes and citizens from the valley condemn the song?
