As peace continues to elude Manipur, and incidents of arson and violence continue to take place in the strife-torn northeastern state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair an all party meeting at the national capital today.

The meeting is likely to take place at 3 PM in the Parliament Library building

NPP national President and Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma is already in Delhi to attend the meet.

NPP MP Agatha Sangma too would attend the meet.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a BJP ally in Assam will be represented by Biren Baishya.

Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang has already left for Delhi for meeting.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar has deputed two of his senior party leaders, Narendra Verma, who is the party national general secretary and Manipur NCP chief Soram Iboyaima to attend the meeting.

West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has deputed party’s Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Derek O’ Brien to attend the meeting.

This would be the Union Home Minister’s second attempt at restoring peace and normalcy
in the trouble torn state.

Earlier, the Home Minister had camped in Manipur for 3 days from May 29 to June 1 and he met the various stakeholders, visited the worst violence hit Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, reviewed the situation and also reached out to the affected people.

Amid these efforts to resolve the conflict, sporadic incidents of violence are still being reported from the state.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of a series of incidents of arson and firing being reported from Manipur.

Just last night, a mob burnt a godown that was the private property of Manipur Minister L Sucindro Meitei in Imphal and also tried to attack his residence.

Earlier yesterday, the Indian Army reported incidents of firing by miscreants in areas of Urangpat and Yiangangpokpi (YKPI) located in the border of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts.

Three days back, on June 21, Manipur reported five incidents of violence in a single day –
In the first incident, an IED blast occurred in South of Kwakta in Bishnupur district. The IED was kept inside an SUV which was parked over a culvert between Kwakta Ward Number 7 and Phou-gak-Chao. The blast left an eight-year-old boy and two teenagers seriously wounded.

In the second incident, another incident of firing was reported from Kangpokpi district.

In another incident, unidentified miscreants fired several rounds towards Harothel at around 5:30 PM. Intermittent firing was reported again at around 2-3 am the next morning.

In the third incident, firing was reported from the Imphal East district. Miscreants opened fire using automatic small arms near Urangpat North of YKPI at 5:45 PM, informed sources said.

In the fourth incident, another firing took place towards N Boljang village which is South of Kangchup. Assam Rifles retaliated and brought situation under control.

In the fifth incident, the Sawonbung-YKPI road axis was also blockade by Meira Paibis at multiple locations in Imphal.

However, alert security forces have not lowered their guards and executed timely action to prevent further escalation in the situation.
