Manipur sends contingent for 36th National Games

The contingent comprising as many as 279 athletes and 108 team officials will start leaving Imphal from tomorrow.

The Manipur contingent for the 36th National Games was flagged off today evening from the Olympic Bhavan inside Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal.

Notably, the president of Manipur Olympic Association, Th. Radheshyam flagged off the contingent of 387 members for the National Games which will be held from September 29 to October 12 in Gujarat.

The contingent comprising as many as 279 athletes and 108 team officials will start leaving Imphal from tomorrow.

Out of 36 disciplines in the 36th National Games, Manipur athletes will be competing in 21.

It is noteworthy that Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medalist, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will be the flag bearer for the Manipur contingent.

Meanwhile, speaking to Northeast Live, president of Manipur Olympic Association, Th. Radheshyam exuded full confidence that Manipuri athletes, despite several shortcomings, will compete in their best spirit to uphold the title “Sports powerhouse of India” in the upcoming National Games.

He added that Manipur will be able to forge ahead in the upcoming games.
