In yet another big development, 24 Burmese refugees who were kept at the detention centre called Sadbhavna Mandap Khominthang in Manipur have been taken to the Imphal Central Jail today.
The development comes after three people fled the camp on Sunday morning.
Another 28 refugees who have court orders were made to stay back at the center, while those of the 24 who were taken today to Imphal Central Jail have no court orders.
Three of the 24 were underage boys, while the rest were women.
The temporary detention centre, Sadbhavna Mandap Khominthang, is currently fenced poorly, due to which one could sneak out at any time.
The state government and the Joint Philanthropic Organisation Churachandpur have not arranged any food provision to meet all their requirements.
Unable to bear the brunt of the atrocities perpetrated against them by the military junta, most of these Burmese refugees entered Manipur by crossing the border from the Tamu-Moreh sections, while some made inroads from Mizoram without valid passports.
