Less than a week to LS polls, 2 dead in fresh violence in Manipur

Cross firing took place at Moirangpurel of Imphal East and Phailengmol area of Kangpokpi making the situation tense.

At least 2 people were killed in cross firing today as violence continues in the periphery areas of the state ahead of the 1st phase of polling on April 19th for Inner Manipur seat and parts of Outer Manipur.

The latest incident of violence comes to the fore from the peripheral areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi.
Cross firing took place at Moirangpurel of Imphal East and Phailengmol area of Kangpokpi making the situation tense.

In fact, at least two from Kangpokpi side have been killed in the fresh incident of violence. There have been reports of injuries to several engaged in the gunfight, however, there is no confirmation on the numbers.

Situation continues to be extremely tense in the violence-hit area. The fresh violence in the state also comes as a concern with the Lok Sabha election scheduled for next week.

Earlier, yesterday reports of violence had come in from the peripheral areas of Thoubal, Kakching and Tengnoupal. At least 3 people were injured in the cross firing in Heirok under Thoubal district.
