A team of experts was dispatched to investigate the matter

Amid fears of a possible oil spill at Dolaithabi village in Imphal East, Superintendent of Police of Imphal East, S. Imbomcha Singh said today that the incident might not have involved any oil leakage although it cannot be confirmed yet.

Earlier it was being suspected that there was oil spill at Iril river at Dolaithabi village in Imphal East.

After receiving information from villagers, the Officer-in-Charge of Sagolmang Police Station rushed to the spot and ordered the closing down of the Dolaithabi dam to stop further spreading of the oil to other parts of the state. A team of experts was dispatched to investigate the matter.

On January 10, leakage of heavy fuel was reported from Manipur’s Leimakhong Power Station in Imphal West. The leakage led to spilling of the discharge into the streams passing through Kantosabal and Sekmai where people in the areas are dependent on the stream water for their livelihood.

The Manipur State Power Company Ltd (MSPCL) filed a report with the police blaming incidents of theft and burglary at the facility for the incident.
