Fresh firing in Manipur, one feared dead, houses torched

An incident of fresh firing and torching of houses was reported from Thangbuh village in Kangpokpi district of trouble-torn state of Manipur this morning. One person is reported dead.
Firing was also reported from Phailang village in the New Sekmai area of Kangpokpi.
The Committee on Tribal Unity has called for a 72-hour shutdown of National Highway 2 in protest against the burning of three trucks yesterday and the attack and alleged torching of houses in Thangbuh village this morning.
On Saturday, an incident of arson was reported from Sekmai in Imphal West district of Manipur. Three trucks loaded with gas cylinders were torched by an irate mob.
The trucks were stranded at the IOC’s gas plant in Sekmai since May 3, the day violence broke out in the state.
As per inputs, the three trucks were being moved out from the bottling plant to go to Kangpokpi district after the owner of Misao Gas Service received approval from the police.
