The committee has given 24 hours to the government to review the resolution or else it will continue and intensify its protest.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has strongly rejected the 8-point resolution adopted by the ruling NDA MLAs of Manipur in a meeting held with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and holding a protest at the iconic Ema Market in Imphal.
The COCOMI said that the resolution, which included demands for various actions notably fell short of COCOMI’s core purposes.
COCOMI’s spokesperson, Athouba Khuraijam, stated that the committee had initially presented 3 clear demands to the government. However, only one of these points was reflected in the adopted resolution, with the other two diverging significantly from the group’s original position.
“We listed 3 point demands clearly to the government, but of the 3 demands only one was reflected in the 8-point resolution and others were completely diverged from the entire original key points,” said Athouba Khuraijam.
The committee has given 24 hours to the government to review the resolution or else it will continue and intensify its protest.
“We have given them another 24 hours to review the resolution so that they can make changes. If it happens, well and good. But if it doesn’t happen, we will continue and intensify our agitation,” said Khuraijam.
Yesterday, the meeting of ruling NDA MLAs of Manipur, chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, adopted a resolution demanding urgent action on several issues, including a mass security operation against Kuki militants responsible for the killing of 6 Meiteis including 3 women and 3 children in Jiribam.
They called for the Kuki militants involved in the Jiribam killings to be declared an unlawful organization within the same timeframe.
Additionally, the MLAs urged the Centre to review the reimposition of AFSPA in 6 police station areas of the state.
The resolution set a seven-day deadline for the Centre to implement the 8-point demands.
The resolution further stated that if these key demands are not met within the deadline, the MLAs would consult with the people of Manipur to decide on further action.
The meeting also emphasized the need for both the central and state governments to take swift measures to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
The meeting, attended by 27 MLAs and a few others via phone.
