5G services launched in Manipur

With today’s soft launch, 5G services have been made available in at least 40 areas of Imphal East and Imphal West districts

In a significant step towards boosting digital connectivity in Manipur, 5G network services have been launched in select areas of two districts of the state namely Imphal East and Imphal West.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Bharti Airtel CEO, North East and Assam Circle Rajnish Verma among other officials were present during the launch of 5G today at CM Secretariat in Imphal.

With today’s soft launch, 5G services have been made available in at least 40 areas of Imphal East and Imphal West districts. The approximate speed of data and internet services would go up to 300 Mbps from 250-280 Mbps post the launch.

Speaking on the occasion, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said that making use of telecom infrastructures extensively for good governance is an integral part of the state’s development strategy. He exuded confidence that launching of 5G in Imphal will improve lives of the common man, raise the living standards of the people of Manipur and help generate employment and revenue.
The chief minister also requested Bharti Airtel to focus on border areas and remote villages to boost the digital connectivity.

India had launched 5G services on October 5, 2022 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasised the significance of 5G connectivity for transforming various sectors such as agriculture, health, industry, disaster management among others.
