Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today batted for peace and said that dialogue is the best option to resolve any complication that might have cropped up between communities of Manipur.
The Chief Minister today met leaders of several Manipur communities living in Meghalaya even as Manipur limps back to normalcy after communal violence that had gripped the state since May 3.
The CM who met representatives of the Kuki and Hmar communities, said, “We can do whatever it takes from our side and appeal to people of Manipur especially to all the communities, that whatever complications are there, violence is not the answer. We can sit down and through dialogues we can find solutions to the problems. I urge the people of Manipur that we should make sure that we bring back peace, we should stay away from violence”.
The community leaders requested help from the Meghalaya government to support those coming from Manipur to Shillong to be with their relatives.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “we have assured them from the government side. These are very difficult moments. And as a state government we will do whatever is possible from our side to help them and support them.”
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that over 300 students from Meghalaya have been brought back home from Manipur, while a few willingly have opted to stay back.
The Chief Minister added that about 4-5 of them are in very interior locations and the state government is in touch with them. “We will see the appropriate time to bring them back. Apart from that, rest of the students or other people who wanted to come back are already back in Shillong.”
